Candidates for a Tummy Tuck
The best candidates for a tummy tuck are adults who are in good health, do not smoke, have a positive outlook, and desire any or all of the following improvements:
- Tightening loose, sagging abdominal skin
- Flattening a protruding belly bulge
- Removing areas of excess fat
- Reshaping a stretched or distorted belly button (navel)
Dr. Mukerji performs liposuction with most abdominoplasty procedures; in certain cases, liposuction alone is enough to provide the desired improvements. After pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding, many women choose mommy makeover surgery for multiple improvements with a single surgery and recovery period.
During a 30-minute, complimentary cosmetic consultation, Dr. Mukerji will talk with you about the changes you want, review your medical history, and explain the procedure in detail. He wants you to have a clear understanding of what to expect before and after surgery. You will be given a written treatment plan and cost estimate to take with you after the consultation and consider at home. You have the option of scheduling your surgery while you’re in the office or think it over on your own time.

About the Surgery
Dr. Mukerji performs abdominoplasty procedures using general anesthetic in a nearby hospital. The procedure takes approximately 2 to 3 hours to complete depending on the extent of correction and whether you are having multiple procedures.
While a complete tummy tuck requires a horizontal incision that runs between the hip bones, Dr. Mukerji places it low enough for the resulting scar to be covered by most underwear and swimsuits. A second incision is concealed inside the navel. A mini tummy tuck, which involves a shorter incision, limits correction to the lower portion of the abdomen—mostly below the belly button. After making the incision, he brings separated abdominal muscles back together along the midline and sutures them in place with non-dissolving sutures. He then removes excess fat pockets, smooths the abdominal skin down, and trims away the excess. Once complete, the incisions are carefully sutured closed.
Recovery After Tummy Tuck Surgery
Dr. Mukerji’s tummy tuck patients spend one night in the hospital and return home the next day in the care of an adult. Before you are released, the hospital staff will ensure you’re in stable condition and that you are standing and walking to prevent blood clots from forming. While healing rates vary, you will likely feel up to going back to work within 2 to 3 weeks depending on the nature of your job.
Tummy Tuck Results
Most tummy tuck patients find it very freeing to no longer worry about concealing excess skin and a bulging belly. They tell Dr. Murkerji that being able to wear fitted shirts and show off their abs makes it especially motivating to continue exercising and eating right.
