About the Surgery

Dr. Mukerji performs abdominoplasty procedures using general anesthetic in a nearby hospital. The procedure takes approximately 2 to 3 hours to complete depending on the extent of correction and whether you are having multiple procedures.

While a complete tummy tuck requires a horizontal incision that runs between the hip bones, Dr. Mukerji places it low enough for the resulting scar to be covered by most underwear and swimsuits. A second incision is concealed inside the navel. A mini tummy tuck, which involves a shorter incision, limits correction to the lower portion of the abdomen—mostly below the belly button. After making the incision, he brings separated abdominal muscles back together along the midline and sutures them in place with non-dissolving sutures. He then removes excess fat pockets, smooths the abdominal skin down, and trims away the excess. Once complete, the incisions are carefully sutured closed.

Recovery After Tummy Tuck Surgery

Dr. Mukerji’s tummy tuck patients spend one night in the hospital and return home the next day in the care of an adult. Before you are released, the hospital staff will ensure you’re in stable condition and that you are standing and walking to prevent blood clots from forming. While healing rates vary, you will likely feel up to going back to work within 2 to 3 weeks depending on the nature of your job.
