Brow Lift
Estimated price$5,386
A forehead lift or “brow lift” is a procedure that restores a more youthful, refreshed look to the area above the eyes. In a forehead lift, the muscles and tissues that cause the furrowing or drooping are altered to smooth the forehead, raise the eyebrows, and minimize frown lines. Dr Mukerji performs an endoscopic brow lift that allows for minimal incisions.

A brow lift is most commonly performed in the 40-60 year old age range to minimize the visible effects of aging. However, it can also help people of any age who have developed furrows or frown lines due to stress, muscle activity, or inherited conditions.

For a better understanding of how a brow lift might change your appearance, look into the mirror and place the palms of your hands at the outer edges of your eyes, above your eyebrows. Gently draw the skin up to raise the brow and the forehead area.

Depending on your individual needs, a forehead lift may be performed in conjunction with a facelift to provide a smoother overall look to the face. Eyelid surgery, or a blepharoplasty, may also be performed at the same time if you have significant skin overhang in the upper eyelids. Dr. Mukerji may suggest to have the brow lift first and then the eyelid surgery at a later date to avoid over correction.

The surgery is a same day surgery done under general anesthesia and lasts about one hour. Recovery is usually another 2-3 hours, depending on your needs, before you are discharged home. You should be able to return to work in one week depending on the level of activity required for your job and the amount of bruising you experience.

If your vision is affected by the heaviness of your brows, your insurance may determine your surgery to be medically necessary. A visual fields test will need to be completed by an optometrist to determine if your impairment meets your insurance guidelines. If you do not meet insurance guidelines, a brow lift can still be done for cosmetic reasons.

Brow Lift Consultation

Plan to spend 30 minutes to one hour at your initial consultation with Dr. Mukerji. During this consultation, you will discuss your surgery goals, your plastic surgery options and go over the risks and benefits involved with your surgery. Your decision to have surgery is a highly personal one that not everyone will understand. The important thing is how you feel about it.

Prior to your consultation, make a list of questions. Many things will be covered during your consultation and it is easy to forget all the questions you had. Be sure to let us know if you smoke, the medications you take including vitamins, and any other health problems. Be aware that smoking causes the blood vessels to constrict which reduces blood flow, and the oxygen it carries, to the surgical area. When your blood supply is reduced, tissues heal more slowly and there is an increased risk of complications. If you smoke, Dr. Mukerji will let you know if you need to quit smoking prior to your surgery and for how long. If you are required to quit smoking prior to surgery, a nicotine test will be administered on the morning of your surgery.

Typically, most of our surgeries are performed at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen, SD under general anesthesia.
