Get to Know Dr. Mukerji
What led you to become a plastic surgeon?
I started my medical career as a general surgeon and was drawn to plastic surgery because of the diversity of patient needs. I liked the idea of combining technical surgical abilities and an eye for aesthetics to create changes that match what each patient wants.
How would you describe your practice philosophy?
I believe in excellence. I want every patient to be thrilled with his/her results. Unlike with general surgery, plastic surgery results are usually in plain sight; it’s imperative to leave patients looking beautiful and natural. That motivates me to do my absolute best.
What would patients be surprised to learn about you?
I make the whole process transparent. Most people aren’t used to doctors being so open. In my practice, nothing is hidden. I tell patients what can and can’t be done. I disclose risks and cost. I believe full disclosure is necessary to build trust and confidence in a surgeon.
What do you consider the best compliment you could ever receive from a patient?
Repeat procedures. When patients return to me for another procedure, I am flattered because I know I made them happy. Many patients of mine are people I’ve worked with in the operating room; it’s gratifying to know they have confidence in my abilities and the care I provide.
How do you make your patients happy?
Communication is vital. I want to know my patients’ aspirations and help them form realistic expectations around what is actually possible. I avoid anything that is unnecessary. I focus on safety and minimize risk. I want to make sure my patients receive the results they hope for and are better off after surgery, not burdened with a new concern.
What are some of your interests outside of work?
I like to travel, play golf, and go biking. I’m also an artist; I especially enjoy painting.
